Description
This is a 1.5 inch large replica of a brilliant uncirculated 1883 NO CENTS Liberty nickel, a.k.a. a V-Nickle. It is made of .999 fine copper and weighs 1 ounce. You will receive an almost identical medallion as shown in the pictures I took. They have a gorgeous proof-like appearance that doesn't fully come through in the photos
. I have placed these replicas in new Air-Tite brand Direct Fit protective capsules. They can be removed from the capsules if you desire.
The first Liberty nickels were minted in 1883. The U. S. Mint failed to include the word "CENTS" below the "V" on the reverse side of the coins. Crooks began gold plating the coins, sometimes reeding the edge, and passing them off as gold pieces. These altered coins were known as racketeer nickels. Later that same year, the U. S. Mint began adding the word "CENTS" below the "V" to denote they were 5 cent coins.
These copper replicas make great conversation pieces and instill an interest in children learning about United States history.
